Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo said she is “very worried” that AI will be used “nefariously” in the 2024 election.

“AI can do amazing things and AI can mess up our elections here and around the world,” Raimondo said at a news conference. “We are already starting to see it,” she said.

People then asked her about the robocall that supposedly came during the New Hampshire primary and changed the voting times while claiming to be from Joe Biden. Governor Gina Raimondo said that the government is doing “extensively” to fight these AI-related issues.

Is that a worry? Yes. Should I believe we have the means to safeguard our democracy and the election? Yes. Do the people I’ve dealt with in the private sector make me think they want to do the right thing? Primarily, yes. “This is a very serious danger,” she said.

She spoke out, saying that the US needs to keep up with the times because China is putting more money into technology and AI systems.

People have said that the government is getting together a group of private and public companies to help solve AI’s problems. It’s the world’s biggest gathering of AI makers, users, researchers, and interested parties. With more than 200 members already, this consortium brings together Fortune 500 companies, school teams, non-profits, and government agencies to focus on the research and development needed to make AI systems safe and reliable.

Raimondo said we don’t need to worry about AI “eliminating the human race” right now because we are in charge of it. “It is up to us to build, use, and maintain AI.” Like that about the election. The responsibility to do the right thing now lies with us, she said.
