Young liberal activists who are upset with Biden’s choices say that his reaction to the war between Israel and Hamas has been disappointing.
It’s becoming clearer to officials why young people are worried about Biden’s decisions about the war in Israel. An organizer with the youth climate group Fridays for Future NYC, Keanu Arpels-Josiah, spoke out: “It’s clear that young people are disappointed with Biden’s choices on climate and Gaza, and foreign policy and everything else.”
Keanu went on to say that Biden can’t just ask young people to vote for him; he needs to show that he can make the changes they want. They kept going, saying that Biden needs to “stand up for the things that matter to us” if they want people to show up and vote.
Biden’s choice not to call for a quick end to the fighting has hurt a lot of young people who want to vote in this election. In particular, Muslim and Arab leaders are still against what Biden is doing.
An executive director of Gen Z for Change, Elise Joshi, said, “I shouldn’t have to say how important it is morally for a cease-fire, but it’s also important politically if that’s all this administration cares about.” This is something that a lot of young activists have said.
Alexandr Haraus, a climate campaigner and TikTok user said, “People are still mad about the killings in Gaza.” That’s their choice, and I don’t think this move will affect people who care about that. Anybody who cares about the environment will like it, though.
A lot more young people are likely to speak out about this issue, especially as the next election draws near and many start to decide which candidate, if any, they will support.
