Many people across the US were unable to use Facebook, Instagram, and Threads for two hours.

On Tuesday, a lot of Americans couldn’t use social media for a couple of hours. The outage mostly affected Facebook and Threads. It started around 10 AM when people were having trouble updating their feeds. After that, a lot of people were locked out of their accounts immediately and couldn’t get back in. It happened to more than one person; some could get to the app and join in, but others could not.

Meta’s spokesman, Andy Stone, said, “Earlier today, a technical issue made it hard for some people to access some of our services.” We fixed the problem as soon as possible for everyone who was affected, and we’re sorry for the trouble this caused.

The outages happened on Super Tuesday, which is also the day of the US primary voting. Social networks like Instagram and Facebook are often used by elections and leaders to reach voters, so the outage had an effect on this.

The hashtags #instagramdown and #facebookoutage were popular on X during the downtime, even though they are usually used to talk about the election.

Along with this, Meta is having problems with the Meta Admin Center, Facebook and Instagram Shops, and the WhatsApp Business API. YouTube even said they were having problems because when users tried to watch shorts, all they saw was a blank screen. Some people also had problems with Gmail, like not being able to send or receive emails.

By noon, two hours after the problems started, they had fixed everything and users were able to log back in without any problems.
