Israel is looking for a new time to meet at Rafah

In order to get back to their meeting about their military action in Rafah, Israel has asked the US to reschedule it.

The meeting in Washington, D.C., that was meant to happen was called off by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.  A spokeswoman for the White House, Karine Jean-Pierre, said, “We’re now working with them to find a date that works for both of us.”

Netanyahu was angry that the US had decided not to follow through on the UN Security Council resolution that called for a quick end to the fighting and the release of hostages. He called off the meeting in response.

U.S. officials were shocked by the cancellation and said it was an “overreaction” to the motion since the policy hadn’t really changed. A date has not been made official, but word on the street is that it will happen soon.

There is a lot of disagreement about Netanyahu’s plans to send troops to Rafah in Gaza, where more than a million Palestinians have taken refuge. Other politicians have spoken out against them because they are afraid that many people will die if they move into Rafah.

The UN warned that this “could lead to a slaughter in Gaza.” On the other hand, Israel has said that they will move forward with or without US help.

Some spoke out against the cancellation, saying that his response was just a power rush over the United States. Netanyahu said, though, that the cancelation was meant to show Hamas that they would not give up the war, even though other countries were putting pressure on them to do so.
