EU Looks into Apple More Thoroughly

Apple, Meta, and Google are all being looked into by the EU because they may have broken the bloc’s new laws, which were made to stop behavior that hurts competition.

The three tech companies could get hit with big fines if they are found guilty. The act that they’re talking about is the Digital Markets Act, which gets rid of reasons that hurt competition. It was just passed a few weeks ago.

In a few cases, the European Union is looking into what the companies did. Apple and Google have tried to get people to use their competitors’ app stores in these scenarios. Additionally, Google will be checked to see if they were promoting their own services, such as Google Shopping, in search results on their search engine, with the goal of keeping people with their own brand and business.

“The commission suspects that the measures put in place by these gatekeepers fall short of effective compliance with their obligations under the DMA,” the commission said.

The new law is meant to level the playing field for the company’s competitors. It requires all six technology giants to follow rules that will create more chances and fair competition.

Gatekeepers and I have been talking about how to help them adapt for months now, and we can already see changes in the market. “But we’re not sure that Alphabet, Apple, and Meta’s solutions live up to their promises of making the internet a fairer and more open place for Europeans and businesses,” said Thierry Breton, who is in charge of the internal market.

Many people agree with this and think that making the change as soon as possible will be good for everyone, including customers.
