According to TikTok, a bill that would make the social media app available for purchase is unconstitutional.

As a way to get around important foreign and humanitarian aid, the House of Representatives is once again rushing through a ban bill that would violate the free speech rights of 170 million Americans, TikTok said in a statement.

The bill was approved by the House and now goes to the Senate. It will then go to President Biden, who has said he will sign it into law. This was added to a bigger package that had to be passed. It included aid for Taiwan, Israel, and Ukraine.

According to the bill, ByteDance, the company that runs TikTok, would have nine months to sell the app or take it down from app stores in the US.

Americans are at risk from the social media app because Beijing could use information from the app against the US. This is called a national security danger.

TikTok was banned when Donald Trump was president. He tried to ban the social media app himself, but it was stopped because people said it violated their rights to free speech and due process.

A lot of people are still thinking about this problem as the legislation moves forward for a sale, but for now it will keep moving forward. The nine-month period will be extended to twelve months by the Biden Administration if they think that there is progress being made in selling the app.
