The new job title for someone who works with AI is Chief Artificial Intelligence Officer (CAIO), but it might not be as useful or powerful as it seems.
It is said that the number of companies hiring for this new job has tripled in just five years. As businesses, tech experts, and companies get ready for the future of AI, they’ve found that the most important jobs to fill right now are CAIO, engineer, and AI researcher.
However, a lot of experts, including Chief Artificial Intelligence Officers, have said that putting someone in this role without giving them the right training can hurt the business. As the co-founder and CEO of Domino Data Lab, Nick Elprin works with AI, and he talked about the job.
Elprin stated, “The most common issue I see is that the chief AI officer doesn’t have the authority to handle the responsibilities and expectations that are put on them.” And he said, “Otherwise, they’ll just be a figurehead being asked for advice; they won’t be able to control their own fate.”
In addition, he said that you can’t just hire someone with tech knowledge for this job; they need to be able to explain tech in a way that people can understand.
A company called Armada builds data centers for AI workloads. Their Chief AI Officer, Prag Mishra, says, “The way we understand the implications of using AI needs to become clear across the whole senior management.”
Some companies may not need a chief information officer (CIO) right now, but they may want to add one in the future as AI becomes more famous and their business grows.
“There’s somebody who needs to be very much responsible for the implementation and understanding the deployment and the impact,” Mishra said about the job.
