China Tried Interfering in the Most Recent Canadian Elections?!

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau says that China almost messed with Canada’s last two elections. Still, he says that it didn’t change the results and that China “probably” didn’t favor one party over another.

Some questions about the elections were asked of the Prime Minister during a signed report. Even though he answered, he said the votes were still “free and fair.” Lawmakers who were upset about the social media posts that showed China might have had a hand in the elections put pressure on the Prime Minister to create the panel.

China has always said that this is not true and that the charges are “baseless.” They lost about nine seats because of the interference, but Erin O’Toole said that it didn’t change the result of the election in the end.

It was clear that the elections were fair when Trudeau said, “Nothing we have seen and heard despite, yes, attempts by foreign states to interfere, those elections held in their integrity.” They were chosen by Canadians.

Someone also asked Trudeau about a story that said Chinese officials in Canada wanted a Liberal minority because they thought they would be less likely to have policies that were against China. That being said, Trudeau said he never got the report.

He said, “While individual Chinese officials may have said one thing or another, the impression we got and would continue to get is that it just doesn’t seem likely that the Chinese government would have an opinion in the election.”

Not long ago, Canada’s spy service said that China “secretly and dishonestly interfered in both elections.” But a spokesman for the Chinese embassy said, “China has never had any interest in interfering in Canada’s internal affairs.” This means that China doesn’t agree with what Trudeau said.
