A citizen of the United States was caught with $130,000 worth of Fentanyl on them in a cab ride from Mexico back to the United States.

When the taxi with four people inside crossed the border at a U.S. Border Patrol immigration station, it was stopped and inspected. The vehicle was sent for further investigation by an agent in the main inspection area, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. “In the secondary area, a K-9 team trained to find hidden people and drugs asked the driver for permission to search the vehicle and was given it.”

The K-9 unit noticed something in the car’s trunk and checked it out. When they opened it, they saw several bags and a speaker inside. These two things were both filled with bags of Fentanyl that were wrapped in a way that looked like a lot of other illegal drugs. The police found about 10 pounds of Fentanyl, which is worth $130,000. The American who stole the bags claimed them as their own and was caught. The drugs were then given to the Drug Enforcement Administration.

The seizure was part of Operation Apollo, which Customs and Border Protection describes as a “joint regional operation comprised of federal, state, and local agencies.” Because the probe is still going on, more detailed information about the citizen, such as their name, has not been released.
