People are calling for action on air pollution after millions of deaths?!

Health activists and groups want something to be done about air pollution because studies show that it kills millions of people every year.

About seven million people die every year because of things that are caused by air pollution. The real health effects of air pollution, on the other hand, have not gotten much attention. There are a lot of organizers trying to get money to help clean up the air because it is very bad for people’s health. Christa Hasenkopf, who runs the Energy Policy Institute’s clean air projects, wants to make a budget to help solve this problem. She linked the health risks of air pollution to those of HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria.

Many health problems, like heart disease, lung disease, cancer, and even pneumonia, are made worse by dirty air. A South Asian analyst at the Center for Research on Energy and Clean Air, Sunil Dahiya, spoke out: “It’s a slow poison; you slowly move toward death, and because this pandemic has been so slow, we have not been able to respond to it the way we should have.”

Less than 1% of “international development finance and philanthropic funding” goes to clean the air, according to the Clean Air Fund.

A Clear Air Fund director, Sean Maguire, said, “Nobody is saying stop funding work on malaria and tuberculosis and fund work on air pollution instead.” “What we are saying is that if you deal with air pollution, you’ll reduce multiple non-communicable diseases,” he added.

A lot of people have given us different thoughts and points of view on how to fight air pollution, but some people are still not on board. One person who said this is Peter Baker, who is the deputy director of the Center for Global Development and said “that it would be hard for a single global fund to manage.”

The group keeps going in the hopes of getting the money they need to fight air pollution, which they call a “silent killer.”
