The Steelers’ third-string quarterback last season, Haskins signed a one-year contract with the team earlier this month as he prepares for his fourth season in the NFL.

Haskins, Rudolph, new Steelers, and Mitchell Trubisky were all vying for spots on the depth chart this season. Though, things went in an unexpected direction.

Saturday, a car hit and killed Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins in Florida. Brandt’s reaction to the tragedy, given his tender age of 24, was abhorrent.

Dwayne Haskins’ death led Gil Brandt, a longtime Dallas Cowboys executive, to make an absurd reaction.

Brandt added in a Saturday interview that he “hates when anyone is killed, or anyone dies, but he was a person who was living to be dead, so to speak.”

“This morning, when learning of Dwayne Haskins’ passing, I responded recklessly and insensitively on a radio interview,” Brandt posted on Twitter after his remarks. ” Please accept my apologies to Mr. Haskins’ family and anybody else who was offended by how I used my language. I’m sincerely sorry for what I’ve done. My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this trying time.”

Even if you have something positive to say, it may be better to say nothing. That’s how I’d sum up Brandt’s remarks.

Because it was so offensive, Adam Schefter took down his death announcement. Brandt quickly followed suit with even more offensive remarks.

In the wake of Haskins’ terrible death at 24, you don’t need to say anything else. When people start bringing about his NFL career so soon after his death, it’s time to stop.

The league and beyond were shocked to learn of Haskins’ passing.

“I am saddened and at a loss for words,” Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement published by the team following the untimely death of Dwayne Haskins.

On the field and off the field, Tomlin described him as “one of our hardest workers, both for the Steelers and the community.” “Even more than a fantastic co-worker and friend, Dwayne had an enormous impact on the lives of those around him. I’m inconsolable by this loss.”

“Kalabrya, his wife, and his entire family are in our thoughts and prayers.”
